While Zermatt and Cervinia offer incredible terrain, their hidden couloirs and shifting conditions demand humility, respect, and a specific know-how to predict challenges and avoid problems.
Our Freeride Sessions focus on reading the mountain’s mood and adapting to the weather, ensuring every descent is a challenging yet calculated adventure designed to flow with the landscape rather than conquer it. With two decades of local experience, I specialize in guiding non-glaciated, non-extreme terrain within the resort boundaries, tailoring the route to your goals and skill level—whether you’re a seasoned rider looking to explore secluded powder stashes or an intermediate eager to dip your toes into the backcountry.

Methodology
Because off-piste riding carries higher stakes, our process begins with a brief introductory call to assess your mountain experience and discuss the current snow and weather conditions. This conversation allows us to align on safety parameters and select a route that matches your abilities before we ever leave the lodge, while also giving us a chance to build the rapport essential for a successful day together.
On the snow, the focus shifts to real-time decision-making and practical safety skills, such as reading terrain traps, identifying avalanche risks, and managing variable snow conditions. We work on specific techniques to help you ride confidently in untracked powder, ensuring you understand not just how to move, but why certain lines are chosen. By the end of the session, you will have improved your technical riding while gaining the critical awareness needed to navigate the backcountry safely.

Trip Breakdown
Since weather conditions are constantly changing, even the slightest fluctuation in temperature, wind, humidity, or snow fall have an impact on the mountain, meaning that no two powder days are the same. As such, designing a freeride tour is largely a matter of cross-referring my local knowledge with the latest forecasts, then choosing the terrain specifically for each individual or group. Yet, it’s also about adapting—which is why it’s so hard to base ourselves on a strict plan or itinerary. Still, to give you a rough idea of how we approach it, here’s a blueprint for a one-day tour:
We start with a quick check-in—either at your hotel or via phone—to finalize the day’s plan based on the latest weather and snow conditions, outlining our primary route options and any backup plans should the weather shift. Once we meet, we’ll do a gear check to ensure everything is dialed in.
Before we drop in, we’ll do a final check to ensure all your safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe) is functioning perfectly. Once we’re moving, there are no rigid structures—we flow according to the conditions. I’ll keep adjusting the terrain to match your energy level and riding ability, ensuring we stay in the sweet spot between challenge and comfort. We’ll take breaks whenever you need them—whether for photos, a quick snack, or just pausing to breathe in the alpine air.
Lunch is flexible and tailored to your preference. Depending on what we’ve agreed on beforehand, we might stop at a cozy mountain restaurant for a warm meal, find a scenic sunny spot to enjoy a packed lunch, or keep the momentum going with quick snacks while we ride. The goal is to refuel in a way that fits the day’s rhythm and your energy needs.
The afternoon is all about reassessment. We’ll check in on how you’re feeling and look at the latest weather trends to decide whether to push for more runs, explore a quiet ridge, or perhaps call it an early day to beat the crowds. If you’d like, we’ll make a final stop for photos before heading down. Once we’re back at base, we’ll have a quick debrief to discuss what worked well, what you’d change, and what lines you might want to explore further next time.
The experience continues after we take off our boots. Within 48 hours, you’ll receive 5–10 edited photos and one short cinematic clip from your day. I’ll also share any relevant trail maps, gear notes, or restaurant tips to help you make the most of the rest of your stay in Zermatt or Cervinia.
